EYFS curriculum

At LCN, we believe that children can learn through play, fostering their curiosity and creativity. By implementing the EYFS programme, we ensure that children learn and develop effectively, remain healthy and safe, and gain the knowledge and skills necessary to start school. The programme encompasses the following areas of learning:

  • Communication and language

  • Personal, social and emotional development

  • Physical development

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the world

  • Expressive arts and design

Ultimately, we aim to create a ‘home away from home’ feeling, a cozy environment that combines the outdoors with the indoors giving the opportunity to children to thrive and learn in their own unique way.

Child Development Meetings are held by our teachers at the end of each term to summarise individual children’s learning and development. Summative Reports provided to parents form the basis for information shared during these meetings. Parents are encouraged to give their feedback as much as possible to aid the learning and development of their child. This also allows opportunity to see their child’s progress and areas where further support is needed.

Reggio Emilia Approach

Through the Reggio Emilia approach, we foster experiential learning, allowing children to engage their senses and create their own learning paths. Children express their knowledge and creativity through a variety of activities, including drawing, sculpting, dancing, painting, pretend play, modelling, and music. Nurturing these 'Hundred Languages' is essential for effective learning. The Reggio Emilia Approach is an educational philosophy that views children as individuals with immense potential for growth and as beings with inherent rights. It emphasizes learning through a numerous expressive languages shared by all humans and highlights the importance of social interactions in a child's development. Central to this approach is the role of expressive arts in education and the unique, reciprocal learning dynamic between teachers and students. This philosophy prioritizes careful observation and documentation of the learning journey, valuing the process itself over the final outcome.

Parents Workshop

As members of the LCN family, we frequently organize events specifically for parents. These gatherings are either suggested by them or identified by us as topics of interest, such as:

  • Paediatric First Aid for parents

  • Workshop on children's behavior

  • Open-ended play workshop

  • Workshops on home learning

  • Dental Hygiene

Events

Throughout the year, we organize numerous events specifically for children and staff. These occasions offer endless opportunities to create happy memories, foster positive experiences, and strengthen our relationships. Events such as Splash days, World Book Day, Sports Day, Gardening Day or days dedicated to specific topics of learning provide enriching experiences that celebrate physical activity, arts and learning. Additionally, we host events that engage the entire community, including parents, staff, and children. These gatherings, such as Graduation Day, Multicultural Day or End of Term Parties are crucial for building a strong sense of community. They allow families to connect, celebrate achievements, and participate in the vibrant life of the nursery, enhancing the bonds between all members of our community
